Chris Sies

I'm a percussionist and noise maker at heart. Studying percussion at a music school has lead me to explore other avenues of creative output including composition and improvisation through which I've discovered my attraction to noise. In my compositions, I try to incorporate my love for death metal and noise music with my bias towards post-minimalism. It has taken a while for me to let go of my pre-conceived notions of what a composer is but I'm learning to embrace the uncertainty of "finding my voice". This is partly because I like playing a lot of different music and try to embrace sounds of all colors. I occasionally play with a few rock bands but aside from Willo, I'm primarily involved with a mixed chamber group Latitude 49 and usually delve pretty deep into my own solo projects. Trying to embrace all sounds has lead me to some incredible opportunities and collaborations with masterful artists and composers.
